Aveiro Port is located in an inland lagoon called the Ria de Aveiro (Aveiro Estuary).
The Estuary came about due to the retreating sea, leading to the appearance of coastal strips and the subsequent formation of a lagoon that is one of the most important and beautiful hydrographical accidents that occurred on the Portuguese coast.
The main navigation canal is 9km long, running from the entrance of the Harbour (40º39’N, 8º 45’W) to close by the city of Aveiro.
The Port of Aveiro combines a long tradition of general cargo with the state of the art infrastructure. Registration of a movement of about 2 million tons of steel products (coils), forest products (pulp, biomass), cement and derivatives.
